Audio (Cassette) Digitisation and Audio Restoration
So that the voices of your loved ones and important recordings from the past can once again sound crystal clear.
What happens during the process?
Over time, the magnetic material of audio cassettes loses its magnetisation, which can result in a dull sound, reduced dynamics and distracting background noise. For me, digitisation is not simply a matter of making a recording: my goal is to use modern technology to reproduce the original condition of the recording as closely as possible.
For the process, I use regularly maintained, precisely calibrated and cleaned professional cassette decks. I pay particular attention to the cleanliness and condition of the playback heads, as clean sound depends on flawless mechanical contact.
How do we achieve the best possible sound?
- Noise reduction and cleaning: I minimise the characteristic hiss of old tapes and magnetic background noise using specialised software. I make sure that the filtering process keeps human speech sounding natural and does not make it sound “metallic”.
- Dynamics and volume correction: Recordings that are too quiet or dull are digitally amplified and balanced (normalised) so that the final result is easy to hear on any modern device, headphones or car audio system.
- Frequency correction: If the sound has lost its high frequencies over the years, I restore speech clarity and musical detail with subtle equalisation.
- Continuous communication: As with video recordings, I keep you informed throughout the process. Upon request, I can send a short audio sample from the restored recording so that you can also hear the improvement in quality.
Available formats
- MP3: The most popular format, which takes up little space and can be played on virtually any device.
- WAV: A lossless, studio-quality format for those who want to preserve even the smallest details for future generations.
The result: Clean, clear and dynamic audio that preserves the memories of the past for decades to come.
