VHS and Camcorder Tape Preservation and Restoration
Professional technology and personal attention for your irreplaceable memories.
What happens during digitisation?
Many people think that digitisation simply means playing and recording a cassette, but in reality it is a complex technical process. Magnetic tapes lose quality over the decades, the image may become noisy and the colours may shift. That is why I do not simply record the footage, but also restore it using modern digital techniques.
During the process, I use professional, regularly maintained and cleaned playback equipment to avoid damaging the tapes and to extract the cleanest possible signal from the source.
The importance of TBC technology
I have integrated a special device called a TBC (Time Base Corrector) into my digitisation chain. This professional unit is capable of stabilising unstable signals caused by ageing tapes. It eliminates image shaking, straightens out the waviness of vertical lines and ensures that the audio and video remain perfectly synchronised.
How do I make your recordings more enjoyable to watch?
- Continuous communication: I stay in touch with you throughout the process. I send short video clips from the material in progress so that you can also see the expected quality and the results of the corrections.
- Colour and brightness correction: If the footage has become too dark over time or the colours have shifted (for example, everything looks too yellow, blue or red), I digitally restore the natural tones.
- Image enhancement: I reduce distracting image noise and sharpen the footage using software so that it can be enjoyed on modern displays as well.
Supported formats: VHS, VHS-C, Video8, Hi8, Digital8 and MiniDV.
The result: A clean, colour-correct and stable digital video file (MP4) that you can watch and share with your loved ones anytime on a smart TV, computer or phone.
